What is Zika?

February 1, a state of emergency was declared in Honduras after the officials said the number of Zika infections is rising at an "alarming" rate in the Central American country. Since December 16, 2015, when the first case of the mosquito-borne virus was detected, there have been 3,649 cases of people infected with the virus. Honduras' Health ministry, Dr. Yolani Batress.

Mosquito-borne virus is reaching the Philippines (DOH)

According to Health Secretary, Janette Garin, "Because of the existence of mosquitoes, the risk is there... It's an old virus with a new occurence, a possible public health threat. There is still a lot more that we need to know about the virus".

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman, Richard Gordon said, "Similar to our dengue prevention campaign, the PRC will mobilize its volunteers all over the country to lead and encourage the people to practice cleanliness and remove all possible areas where mosquitoes breed.


Aedes aegypti, a day-biting mosquito, is the same mosquito that causes dengue and chikungunya. To reduce the risk of these deadly mosquitoes, people are urged to empty water containers, apply repelent every three hours, keep their home clean, avoid stagnant water, and bury all kinds of rubbish.

The yellow fever mosquito (Aedes aegypti) is a mosquito that can be recognized by white markings on its legs and a marking in the form of a lyre on the upper surface of the thorax. The mosquito originated in Africa but is now found in tropical and subtropical regions throughout the world. The average wing length of female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes varies greatly (1.67–3.83 mm in Peruvian habitat). College of Education Library Updates 07/25/16

First semester for school year 2016 – 2017 is fast approaching! There will be changes on the Library service hours during the start of classes. All satellite libraries of Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology will be opened on Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM; and 8:00 AM until 12:00 NN on Saturday. This change of library service schedule will take effect on upon further notice. The College of Education Library is undergoing some relevant repairs and maintenance to improve its services to its patrons. As of July 25, 2016, some busted fluorescent lights are being replaced with newer bulbs. The air conditioning units are being inspected and maintained for its optimum operation this coming school year. Hands On User Training of Online Database

Announcement: The MSU-IIT Institute Library in cooperation with the  Department of Extension  for the  celebration of  Panagtagbo 2018 ,  the staff of Institute Library, MSU-IIT will be having a "Hands-on User Training of Online Database" on February 20, 2018 at MiCel, 2nd floor, IDS Building. There will be representatives from Emerald Publishing and CE Logic who will present their database: Emerald Insight and Access Engineering. These databases will be added to our e-Libraries and databases.

Software Installation in Progress

Happy new year, faculty, staff and students! How was your first week of the year? How's your enrollment going? College of Education Library is currently installing some software in the computers at the Research Network Area for the patrons to use. Hurrah!! AT LAST! Each computer unit will be installed with Microsoft Office Software as requested by most students for their projects, presentations and documents. Now that's one less hassle for library patrons! Astronomy fans! We also are also installing and testing Stellarium in each PC. Now you can do your stargazing even in broad daylight! Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope. It is being used in planetarium projectors. Just set your coordinates and go.
