Featured Book: Age Discrimination by Employers

Title: Age Discrimination by Employers Author: Kerry Segrave Call Number: 331.398 Se38 2002 Location: CED Lib – Circulation Section Synopsis: In 1907, the editor of The New York Times wrote, “Employers, naturally, look to the young. A man or woman of advanced years is too apt to be given to old-fashioned ways of doing things, and open to suspicion of having the unforgivable fault, in modern business, of slowness.” Age discrimination has existed throughout the 20 th century, sometimes in the public eye and sometimes not. This book examines the employment sector in the United States: treatment by the media, the extent presented by businesses for refusing to hire older workers or for getting rid of them, and the responses of various levels of government. Some foreign data are used for comparison purposes. THE LIBRARY SYSTEM: A Brief History

The establishment of the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology in 1969 was brought about by the result of merging of the libraries of the former MSU-Extension Division and the defunct Lanao Technical School to form the Institute Library. The library had an initial collection of about 3,000 volumes consisted of general and basic references for high school and college. There were few subscriptions of periodicals on general interest and a good number of ephemeral materials. The Institute Library at that time operated with only two sections: college and high school. It was manned by three personnel, a librarian and two library assistants. Mrs. Consejo M. Cariaga was the head librarian assisted by Mr. Dalamacio C. Novela, who took charge of the college library while Ms. Mila S. Aliman was assigned at the High School library. Gradually, this simple structure expanded in response to the growing needs of the academic community together with an increase in personnel. Presently, there are 28

CED Library's Filipiniana Section

CED Library's Filipiniana Section is one of the many sections inside the said library. According to Rosa M. Vallejo of the Institute of Library Science, University of the Philippines, the term Filipiniana is derived from Filipinas (Philippines, sp.) and –ana or –aniana (collected items of information).   Filipiniana section contains books and publications that deal with Philippines regardless of the language used and the publisher. These materials are useful references for studying the Philippines. Filipiniana books are for room use and/or photocopy purposes only.  Read about the library policy by clicking on the link below: Library Policies and Overdue Fines
